Blog Post of the Week! by Sandy from Yes, I Am Cheap
Well, I missed this post’s usual Friday deadline in the worlds-longest-week. It’s those times that you work the entire weekend that you realize how crucial those days are for your Monday through Friday productivity. So….better late than never.
Some News:
While this is easily my favorite post of the week (I take my nutty little award FAR too seriously), I realized recently that I have too many BPotW! posts. We have a podcast on Monday, then two financial posts (Tuesday and Thursday) before we do the BPotW! every Friday. If you don’t count the podcast (it’s becoming clear that my podcast audience and blog audience are largely two different groups) one of every three posts here is BPotW! People who come here for financial advice are instead getting a nice laundry list of other places on the net for good writing.
Starting in two weeks we’ll launch “Blog Post of the Fortnight!” Thanks to a discussion with blogger Kylie Ofiu at FinCon, I now know what the $%#! a fortnight might be. Every two weeks we’ll offer good writing. This will add another new post every other Friday, and BPotF! will be one of every six posts, which is a more tolerable ratio.
Enough Yacking, Let’s Award an Award to An Award Winner
I’m always a fan of posts that save me money. I’ve often tried to score free airline money, but Sandy at Yes I Am Cheap walks us through the process and pitfalls in How to Score Free Money From the Airlines.
Maybe it’s because I recently flew again (and boy are my arms tired…come on…you were waiting for it, weren’t you?), but knowing that airlines are the key to achieving my travel goals, this post could save me hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
Sandy hates my blog, so she won’t come here to claim it, but here’s her big prize:
(readers…that’s an inside baseball joke from Ignite FinCon. I don’t know if she REALLY hates my blog….)
Ready?
You, Sandy, may print off this page and place it on your refrigerator.
No, thank you.
8 Other Brilliant Blog Posts You Should Have Read But May Have Missed So I’ll Remind You
Point/Counterpoint – Let’s start off with John at Married (with Debt) and Brent at On Target Coach. If I have my story right, here’s what happened: John wrote an article entitled Transitioning to Blue Collar Work. That opened a discussion between John and Brent at On Target Coach, who wrote a THREE PIECE EPIC entitled Work and Retirement. I love it when money geeks get on a roll. It produces some great work for us all to read.
Hot Cars! – Krantcents likes cars and discusses how he was able to focus on his dreams without flushing all his money down the toilet on a sports car in I Always Wanted 911 Porsche Cabriolet!
Paying cash works – Dr Dean at the Millionaire Nurse Blog writes about how to save money by paying cash in When Does Paying Cash Pay? Nine Ways to Save!
Uber-Geek! – The mega geek in me LOVES the new Debt Black Hole series What’s Your Current Financial Condition? (Financial Alert Signals) I’ve read many, many versions of how to think about financial planning, but Star Trek lingo to ‘splain it all is new on me.
Podcast bucket list – I enjoy the BuckInspire Podcast. It’s a quick, upbeat show that always leaves me thinking. Listen to Buck’s interview with Whitegate PR’s Dana Humphrey.
Running – As a runner, I enjoyed reading about Krystal’s use of the Nike+ system in Running Toward My Goals at Give Me Back My Five Bucks. I use the same system and flippin’ love it. Highly recommended.
Freedom! – Let’s cap off a great week with a fantastic post from Financial Samurai: How to Save More For Retirement If You Don’t Make Much Money. Another well thought out argument.
We’re Very Popular and Humble
Thanks to Kathleen at Frugal Portland for calling me “hilarious.” I’ll say this: takes one to know one.
Dr. Dean wrote a post about playing board games with his awesome spouse Cil, Len Penzo, honeybee Penzo and I at FinCon. You’ll have to read it. My stomach may still hurt from how hard we were laughing. Here’s how obnoxious we were: a couple sat at a table next to us, ordered, and then left because we were too loud. Oops!
Kim from Eyes On The Dollar was nice enough to include us in her I Can’t Take My Eyes Off These Blog Posts …er….post.
Jana at Daily Money Shot said I have a dirty mind. I think that’s the highest compliment Jana has ever paid me.
Congrats to Christa from MomVesting for two reasons: one, she’s the proud mother of a baby girl, and two, we’re seeing her walking around the blog community again! She linked to us in her Hello Again MV Readers piece.
Sean from One Smart Dollar, who I was happy tracked me down at FinCon, shared our post with his readers in his Take Aways from #FinCon12 post.
And Finally….here’s a hilarious short video (1:45) on The Importance of Saving Money from South Park OG sent me today:

It’s rolling nicely. I’m impressed by our numbers growth lately. It seems that we’re holding listeners, which is good.
Thanks for all the reading! Why isn’t the Post of the Week linked up? Is the hatred that strong?

Wow! Thanks, FF. I’ve had a horrible day getting the podcast up (and this post, which is 3 days late!). It’s now linked. Actually, I added a line because that was an inside joke from Ignite Fincon. She gave a speech telling the room that she “hates all of your blogs.” It was a riot.
Oh, Uncle Joe. You’re so sweet to mention me. And I think it’s cute that you thought that was a compliment.
Seriously, though, and I’ve told you this before: You know I love you more than my luggage. I kid because I care.

You like me! You really, really like me! I stumbled into this blog post since I never visit this dot on the interwebs. Funny how I found myself here.
And seeing as how I am only just now getting a link back to my delicious little post, I might just let it slide. I actually listened to one of those podcast thingies and I even made it through the end.
Sandy recently posted..Differences Between Taking A Loan Or A Withdrawal From Your 401K
You are so hilarious. I enjoyed meeting you at FinCon. Your Ignite speech may have been the best part of the whole four days.
I travel a lot myself so any way I can save money or make a bit back I am game to hear about. Sandy’s article was great.
I am looking forward to your new posts. They sound interesting.

I use Nike+ – have done for ages and love it. Now with my iPhone it is much more reliable for distance because it uses GPS rather than the chip thing that I used to have in my ‘holy’ Nike shoe. We can also hook up on the Nike website and motivate each other (OK, just an idea).
Poor, love, you din’t know what a forthnight is? Oh, dear!
maria@moneyprinciple recently posted..Getting the most out of a credit card
I’m a sheltered soul, Maria. I’d love to hook up on Nike +. I rarely go to the site. I used to do the challenges all the time. They’re great. Now, I just kind of get out there and do the mileage. I should switch to using my iphone when I run, but it’s so big! How do you get around that?
Have one of this arm band things for the iPhone – don’t feel any difference compared to the iPod nano I used to use and of course I don’t have to carry another phone. John doesn’t let me out for long runs without a mobile – he has this thing that ‘something may happen’.

Joe, thanks for the link!
Oh, and thanks for reminding me of The Importance of Saving Money. “Boop! And..it’s gone…”
