Blog Post of the Week! – by Financial Samurai

Minions,

I let you down last week by participating in the Yakezie Blog Swap. Instead of this ultra-inspirational award piece, you were treated instead to (dare I say it?) a tax related post.

I know. Horrible. Next time I’ll just spit in your food and get it over with already. Sorry.

Luckily, the piece was by our good friend Eric from NarrowBridge Finance, so it wasn’t me droning on and on about (shudder) taxes. We can all thank Eric and his entertaining, thoughtful prose for saving the blog from certain death.

But, we’re back for another week of award-winning award-giving, so fasten your seat belts and let’s get movin’.

The Award

This week’s winner of the soon-to-be-esteemed Blog Post of the Week! award is Achieving Financial Freedom One Slice At a Time from Financial Samurai. When I was a financial advisor, I’d ask people what they wanted to do with their life. They’d say “golf” or “travel” and I’d have to pretend I was the guy working the deli counter and ask “what else?” Break it down more! Tell me exactly where, with whom and why! You always knew the fourth thing they said was probably finally close to the true goal.

Sam doesn’t have four, he has 40. So should you. I’m not commenting on what you should do with your life…I’m just sayin’ that there’s a great big beautiful tomorrow out there and you should snag as many brass rings as your little hands can reach. Whichever ones you prefer.

Sam, I’ll now present you with the soon-to-be-esteemed Blog Post of the Week! award.

You are permitted to print off this page and post it on your refrigerator.

You’re welcome.

8 Other Blogs You Should Be Reading But Probably Forgot So I’ll Remind You

Because I haven’t given this award in a couple of weeks, I’m going to take the liberty of going into my way-back machine and snatch a few week-old pieces. Much like day-old bread, they’re still awfully good with some soup and lots of butter.

Freedom 48 gave us The Price of a Sandwich. Check out the world’s first sandwich-cost spreadsheet! I thought I was a geek. Sigh. I have so much to learn from these people.

FrugalPortland is Buying a Birthday Present for The Voice of Reason and settles on a gift of cash. Except that’s not how the story really goes. Check out her funny quandry.

You want inspiration? I’ve got yer inspiration right here: Dr. Dean gives us 20 Ways to Improve YOUR Customer Service at The Millionaire Nurse blog. I’m passionate about doughnuts and good business. This piece tackles one of the two. We’ll appreciate the other one next week, Dr. Dean.

More inspiration? How about Barbara Friedberg’s monster list: 50 Habits to Increase Wealth. I rarely send a post to StumbleUpon, but this was the exception.

You want kinda-inspirational-if-you’re-thinking-about-moving-off-the-grid? Check out John’s Early Retirement Extreme at Married (With Debt). Turn your next camping trip into a full-fledged retirement vision. Yee-haw!

How about a dose of frustrating? Follow Kari’s juggling of a big home move AND hackers on her Small Budget Big Dreams site in Website Issues: Help!? Hopefully Kari gets through this week safely and can crack open her favorite beverage later and laugh that she’s lived through the madness.

You want new? Well, new to me these last several weeks has been Anthony, from Joyful Self Manager. I’d seen him hanging out at the Yakezie financial blogger community site, but hadn’t ever meandered over to see his work. Wow! This dude packs a punch! Check out Self Manager – You Must See Yourself as a Success Coach for an example of Anthony’s thoughtful prose.

Speaking of thoughtful, I’m embarrassed to say that the blogger Shilpan from Street Smart Finance stopped by our site and commented foreverago while I was training for my marathon. I made the gi-normous mistake of not reading his work until recently. Once again, I’m the idiot. If you aren’t reading Shilpan’s stuff, you’re missing out. Okay, and because I have nothing else for you at the moment, I’ll now present one of my favorite YouTube videos.

This isn’t suitable for little Johnny or Julie, unless you want to teach him to Butter Yo’ Shit.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Okay, I know I said I was done BEFORE the video, but there’s one more thing….please like us on Facebook. I’ve thought having 17 Facebook followers was really fun (they’re my true inner-circle of friends…everybody’s doing it….come on, just try it….) until I found out that you have to have 30 to get some stats on your page. I love stats. I’m not sure what I’ll do with them, but I’ll love them all! Promise!

Here’s a link. Please Like us! You’ll help children, nuns and baby animals everywhere. Or not.

  1. Have a great weekend AJ! I loved Sam’s post. I hope to build up $4500 in after-tax passive income eventually. It will certainly take some time but he’s proving how to do it and it’s a lot of fun to read his story!

  2. Thanks for the shout out! Next time I go camping I might never come back. Not because I retired, but because a bear ate my face as I was waxing about living off the land. :)

    • No, you don’t, Michelle, but you learned the important lesson: Butter Yo’ Shit.

  6. Thanks for the honor mate! If my blog dies this week, I will be a happy man!

  7. I independently read Sam’s post before you picked it as blog post of the week. Great pick! His post offers some wonderful insight on income diversification and creating some passive income. Both of these I need to improve upon in my life. I have his post book-marked to include in my next Rambling Road post.. not quite the honor of being called blog post of the week by you though! Good stuff.

    • You’re right on, Matt! It’s a huge honor being called Blog Post of the Week! by us. Very similiar to having the drunk guy at the airport give you the “honor” of handing him five bucks.
