Blog Post of the Fortnight! by Thirty Six Months

Blog Post of the Fortnight! by Thirty Six Months

It’s been a whirlwind week at FFA World Headquarters (otherwise known as my parent’s basement here at the corner of Texas and Arkansas….).

- OG is at the House of Mouse.

- Cheryl and I are hosting a huge party (gala, if you prefer steaks to hot dogs) for my kids’ swim team and their families tomorrow at our house. If it rains, we’re screwed.

- Along with a host of friends, including PK from our wildly …er…. authentic podcast, this was our debutante coming out week into the Yakezie blog network group.

- All this AND I was able to read enough to create what I think is a pretty great Blog Post of the Fortnight!

Let’s Award an Award to an Award Winner

Marissa writes our Blog Post of the Fortnight! (the exclamation point still cracks me up every time I type it….) with the uber-useful: When To Quit Being an Entrepreneur. When I was an advisor, many of my clients were business owners….and shouldn’t have been. This is a wake up call to anyone who’s working for themselves and wonders if they’re performing the right tasks to stay in business.

The biggest problem I saw with unsuccessful entrepreneurs? It’s Marissa’s #1 point NOT to quit, but to change: “Shiny New Object Syndrome.” Too many ideas and not enough implementation.

Sweet post, Marissa. You now have the honor of bestowing upon yourself our huge reward:

You may print off this page and post it on your refrigerator for exactly two weeks.

And, because all awards are bigger in Texas, make sure you use a huge-ass font.

Nearly on topic…if you work for yourself (hello, bloggers!), take part in our October giveaway! We’re handing over a free copy of our favorite biz book The E-Myth, Why Most Small Businesses Fail and What To Do About It. Tweet about our podcast for 5 entries. Love us on Facebook for five more. Guess the voice on our podcast this month for 25 more entries. So far ONLY TWO people have entered. How’s that for an easy chance to win?

8 Other Awesome Blog Posts You Should Have Read But Might Have Forgotten, So I’ll Remind You….

Here we go again. My decision to cut the Blog Post of the Week! down to a more-manageable Blog Post of the Fortnight is kicking my butt. I have to limit this thing to only eight blog posts?

Well….here goes:

While we’re talking about work, let’s kick off this shindig by highlighting Kim’s article at Eyes on the Money about Being a Boss: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. If you’re an entrepreneur, this is a must read.

Speaking of eyes…Michelle at See Debt Run offers some good tips in: Save Money On Eye Care.

I think the guest-post-of-the-week!  goes to Luis Amato who sits in for Paula at Afford Anything one post and talks: How I Started Flipping Houses.

Speaking of houses, Holly at Club Thrifty might have a “house problem” and hubby Greg might be her enabler. Together, they’re exploring House Shopping: The Addiction Continues. That one would win hilarious-post-of-the-week! (exclamation part of the award, not the end of the sentence).

Did I say enabler? Sean at One Smart Dollar is mine, when he introduced me to: LetsPour Helps Find Deals on Hard-To-Find Craft Beer. Thanks, Sean. It’s hard to stay in denial when I’m dialing up beers on my smartphone.

Did I say “deals?” Dr. Dean is the man talking holiday deals in Specific Toy On Your Christmas List? Better Hurry!

On the topic of cool guys who happen to be on an awesome podcast…take a look at PK from DQYDJ.net’s not-what-you-expected findings in Are Incomes In The United States Becoming More Unequal?

…and finally (do I have to end! There are like fifty other awesome ones….), if your name happens to be Ryan and you’re reading this, it might just be your lucky day. I enjoyed reading about how T.L. at Budget & The Beach is getting married to “a Ryan” in her goal visioning post: What Does Your Success Look Like.

Hello, Neighbor. Welcome to the Party

I received an email this week from a new-to-me blogger at Your Wealth Effect this week. When I visited the site I was pleasantly surprised to find a headline I liked: Your Facts Don’t Agree With My Opinions So By Default They Must Not Be True. Rarely do I share headlines with friends outside of the blogging community or get involved in political discussions. I’ve already forwarded this piece three times. Good stuff!

We’re Very Popular and Modest, Too

I mentioned above that we made it: we’re members of the Yakezie network. I haven’t yet learned the secret handshake AND I’m waiting for the “new guy hazing” ritual, so no word on that. If you’d like to read my membership post, here it is.

John at My Family Finances decided our 7 Things Guys Should Not Say At Work was worthy of his roundup post. I’m sure John is sitting on his namesake texting to all his friends that he’s been included here (to even try to understand that joke, read John’s piece….).

Congratulations

To our buddies Len and Honeybee Penzo for being featured on television! I wish I had a quarter of the creativity that guy possesses. Now if he used his powers to figure out the national debt problem instead of whether his kid’s should have salami or peanut butter to save fourteen cents, imagine what we’d achieve…. (Shameless plug…did you know that you can catch Len, along with Dr. Dean, Dominique, Carrie and PK every week on our podcast? This is like your birthday and Halloween all wrapped up in one, isn’t it?)

    • You’ve got it DC. This is like the Super Bowl of blogger awards. Except it’s only two weeks. And except there really aren’t any published criteria. And hardly anyone knows about it. But besides that, they’re exactly alike.

  2. Glad I am able to help in all aspects of a persons life :-) Thanks for the mention. Have an awesome weekend.
